About

Peace River School Division (PRSD) is proud to be able to offer alternative education to students in Northern Alberta.  We endeavour to work with parents, together offering the best for your child. Our mission is “Learning Together, Success for All” and we want every student to reach their highest potential. We are excited to be on this journey with you. Peace River School Division wants to ensure that every student in our division gets the very best that we have to offer.  We are now offering many more choices for your child’s education from teacher-directed homeschooling to parent-directed, traditional homeschooling and a blend of both.

We look forward to serving the needs of every child in our boundaries and beyond.

Teacher Directed Home Education
Parents who wish to access programming through a certified teacher, following the Alberta Program of Studies and following a schedule have many options.  We as a division have access to ADLC resources, ScCyber teachers as well as our own highly trained certified teachers in our division.  We are determined to give your child the very best in their educational journey.  The PRSD home education program can provide your child a virtual education with access to a teacher through phone, Skype, and email.

Parent Directed Homeschooling / Child-Directed Education
The newest offering of PRSD is to offer parents a chance to homeschool their children with support from a certified facilitator.  The facilitator will meet with you as often as you wish and will assist in organizing a homeschool support network. Field trips and other activities, designed to keep you connected, will be offered throughout the year.

 Shared Responsibility
Are you comfortable teaching your child mathematics but not sure how to guide them in English Language Arts studies? You have a chance to blend your program as you wish.  PRSD offers this blended program so that you can avail yourself of certified teachers and ensure that your child is on the path to success in their life journey. A blended program may also mean that a student takes courses at a local school.

Offerings for Home Education Students
Students who are registered with PRSD will be able to access the following supports:

  • a facilitator that helps you along your home education journey.
  • programming, field trips and extracurricular activities at your local school.
  • educational field trips and networking social events with other home education families, organized by the PRSD coordinator.
